The Vodafone microwave transmission tower, also known as the “Schomberg Tower,” opened in September 2006 and is a great destination for the whole family.
With a total height of 65 meters, it soars into the sky south of Sundern’s highest peak, the Schomberg (646 meters), in the Wildewiese ski area. While the tower is impressive even when viewed from below, the view from the observation deck at a height of 30 meters is even more breathtaking, as the panorama is unbeatably beautiful.
On a clear day, you can let your gaze wander over the northern Ruhrgebiet and beyond the Lippe region all the way to Münster, 85 km away, to the Teutoburg Forest, and to the radio tower near Bielefeld, 90 km away. On days with exceptionally clear visibility, you can even see the Hohe Acht at the Nürburgring in the Eifel—over 118 km away—to the south, in addition to the Siebengebirge, which is more than 80 km away.
