From a historical perspective, St. Boniface's Church in Raumland is still a place of central importance today: when the Christian missionaries had worked their way up to the Rothaargebirge, an important missionary base was established here. It was probably founded from Mainz at the beginning of the 9th century. Raumland was the original parish for the northern part of the Wittgenstein region.
The late Romanesque hall church was built between 1240 and 1260 and preceded the construction of similar churches in Arfeld and Wingeshausen. Today, the three bells in the church are the oldest uniform and fully preserved chimes in the Westphalian region; they were probably cast in the second half of the 14th century directly in Raumland or in one of the surrounding villages.
Another special feature in Raumland is the entrance door at the north portal. The mighty door, made of oak planks, still has the old, open snap lock and the original pull bolt in the form of a door knocker - in this form, the door from the 17th/18th century is a real rarity.
