Journey to the Sauerland

As the No. 1 recreational region in NRW, the Sauerland is easy to reach from almost anywhere thanks to its good connections to the bus and rail network and numerous highways. So that you don't lose a minute of your precious vacation time, we have described the shortest routes here:

Arriving by by car:

• from the north: A1/A45 Hamburg >> direction Frankfurt
• from the south: A5 Frankfurt/Stuttgart or A45 Frankfurt/Würzburg >> direction Gießen
• from the east: A44 Kassel/Dortmund
• from the west: A44 Dortmund/Kassel, then take the A46 Brilon or A4 Olpe

Arrival by by train:

• the "Ruhrtal-Bahn", Hagen-Kassel line
• the "Ruhr-Sieg-Bahn" line Hagen - Altena - Werdohl - Finnentrop - Altenhundem - Siegen
• ICE and IC/EC connecting stations for the Sauerland region are Dortmund and Hagen in the west, Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe in the east and Frankfurt in the south.

Onward travel by bus is of course possible - you can get information on this by calling 01806 504030 (20 cents/connection from landlines and a maximum of 60 cents/connection from mobile networks).

With the FlixBus to the Sauerlandand:

In combination with the FlixBus and FlixTrain offer, you can also travel from larger cities such as Berlin or Kassel to the Sauerland in a cheap and relaxed way. It is also often possible to take your bicycles with you. Once you arrive in the Sauerland, the FlixBus stops at numerous vacation resorts.

The FlixBus runs twice daily on the Berlin - Sauerland route. To Braunschweig and Göttingen there are up to 3 daily services. The journey time from Berlin to Braunschweig is 2 ½ hours, Göttingen can be reached in around 4 hours. To Kassel, the green FlixBus takes 5 ¾ hours, Marsberg and thus the first stop in Sauerland is reached in 6 ¾ hours. The total journey time to the last stop in Neheim is around 8 ¼ hours.
