The Sauerland has been awarded the title of Sustainable Destination 2024 by the renowned certification company TourCert. Sauerland Tourism has achieved this success together with its sustainable partner businesses, which have joined together to form a network and want to make sustainability a tangible experience for guests on site. These include tourist information offices, accommodation providers, restaurants and excursion destinations.
As "Germany's inspiring outdoor region", we want to work with our partner businesses to make sustainable travel and vacation experiences possible and continue to expand them. Quality is our top priority, because sustainable tourism is not possible without high-quality products and offers. Authentic offers, regionality and living and working in harmony with nature are the guiding principles of our tourism work. Guests and the local population should be offered and preserved a well-preserved natural and living space for inspiring outdoor experiences. Sustainability in the Sauerland also requires respectful and fair treatment of all employees.
We have been certified with the TourCert seal since April 2024 . This means that we have committed ourselves to continuous improvement in the areas of environmental protection, working conditions, customer information, human rights and fair business relationships. We have developed our sustainability performance in accordance with the TourCert certification standard, which has been audited by independent experts and approved by an expert commission. We are in constant dialog with our service providers and take ecological and social criteria into account when developing and compiling our offers. We also make sure that our employees and those of our partners are paid fairly and that we keep our consumption of resources and the ecological impact of our travel activities as low as possible.
