Several hundred meters of guided tour lead the visitor through an underground realm that stretches from the large main hall to the "Paradise" with Adam and Eve and the "Chapel". The limestone that forms these small treasures consists largely of the remains of corals, arthropods and snails that lived in the cave and whose remains have been pressed and solidified over millions of years. Fortunately, the natural works of art are accessible to everyone, as the Reckenhöhle has been developed in such a way that it is completely barrier-free. This means that people with walking aids, walking frames or wheelchairs can also visit the cave in its entirety. This is not only worthwhile because of the stalactites, columns, sinter terraces and water basins, but also because of the unique effect of the air inside the cave. The offer is known as "healing cave therapy", where visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquillity of the cave for around 20 minutes, equipped with blankets, and enjoy the cool and clean cave air. A relaxing cure not only for people with respiratory problems such as bronchial complaints, hay fever, asthma or similar, but for anyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and finally take a deep breath.
Our tip: 50 m from the cave entrance is the inn and hotel "Haus Recke", which has been inviting visitors to the cave and the Hönnetal to stay for 200 years.
